This is very different from my normal content. But I thinks important.

For decades, saying the word ‘Sednaya’ publicly in Damascus was enough to get you killed. The atrocities that took place inside this inaccessible prison remained rumors. Until 2024, when Syria’s government collapsed, the prison was seiged and the truth began to emerge.

While travelling in Syria, I met a man named Mutasim. He was arrested in 2011 for refusing to follow a military order: to open fire on peaceful protesters. For that act of defiance, the regime labeled him an enemy and sent him to Sednaya where he spent 3 year. The goal wasn’t justice. It was fear, control, and silence.”

Mutasim told me there was only one way I could truly understand: I had to see it for myself.

And so, he agreed to not only get me special access to Sednaya, but to come with me, to revisit the darkest chapter of his past and share his story in raw, brutal, heartbreaking detail.
